Setting the Record Straight: Senator Seriake Dickson Does Not Interfere in Governor Douye Diri’s Administration.

By Gabriel Ukuta

The attention of the public has been drawn to persistent rumours and speculative narratives circulating in parts of Bayelsa State, alleging that Senator Seriake Dickson is interfering in the administration of His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri, particularly with regard to the process of appointing a replacement for the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewrhudjakpor.

These claims are false, misleading, and entirely disconnected from political and constitutional realities in Bayelsa State.

Senator Seriake Dickson, a former Governor of Bayelsa State and currently a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has consistently demonstrated deep respect for democratic institutions and constitutional order. He fully recognises that Governor Douye Diri is the Chief Executive of the state and does not interfere in the governance, decision-making, or administration of Bayelsa State.

Unlike situations in some states where former governors exert undue influence over sitting administrations, Bayelsa State has enjoyed political stability because Senator Dickson deliberately chose the path of restraint, tolerance, and statesmanship after leaving office. He has neither imposed policies nor dictated appointments, contracts, or executive actions to the present administration.

For over six years, Senator Dickson has endured and managed sustained campaigns of humiliation, betrayal, propaganda, and blackmail many of which are false and deliberately orchestrated. These include attempts to incite the public against him, even by individuals he once mentored and supported politically. Despite these provocations, Senator Dickson has remained silent and dignified, choosing peace over confrontation in the interest of Bayelsa State and the collective dignity of the Ijaw people.

It is important to state categorically that Senator Dickson has not sought, requested, or influenced appointments, contracts, or political favours from Governor Douye Diri. His silence should not be misinterpreted. It is a conscious sacrifice aimed at preventing unnecessary political conflicts that could expose Bayelsa State and its people to ridicule.

Regarding the tragic passing of the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewrhudjakpor, Senator Seriake Dickson is still in mourning, having shared a close political, professional, and personal relationship with the deceased. It is therefore insensitive and irresponsible to attribute to him any political calculations or manoeuvres concerning the replacement of the late Deputy Governor.

For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Seriake Dickson has not nominated anyone to replace the late Deputy Governor. He has not been consulted by Governor Douye Diri on the matter, nor has he offered any recommendations. The responsibility for appointing a replacement rests solely with the Governor, in line with constitutional provisions and at a time he considers appropriate.

The public is therefore urged to disregard unfounded rumours suggesting otherwise, as they are deliberately designed to mislead and create unnecessary tension.

At this critical time, Bayelsa State needs unity, calm reflection, and respect for both constitutional authority and human grief. Senator Seriake Dickson has shown that leadership is not always about noise or control, but about wisdom, restraint, and respect for institutions.

Nigerians are watching. Therefore, truth, responsibility and restraint not speculation must guide the public discourse.

Reasons why Political Actors Detract from Senator Dickson

By Gabriel Ukuta In a political terrain that is often characterized by lofty promises, unfulfilled pledges, and leaders who drift away from their people once elected into office. Senator Henry Seriake Dickson in the midst of this familiar pattern, has carved out a reputation that sets him apart: he is a promise-keeper, a leader who matches words with action, and a representative deeply rooted in the lives of his people. This unique approach to politics is precisely why certain political actors in Bayelsa West often attempt to detract from his leadership. His style of governance and representation is not built on empty slogans but on visible results, loyalty to his people, and consistency in fulfilling his commitments. Such authenticity in leadership naturally unsettles those whose politics thrives on deception and opportunism. At the National Assembly, Senator Dickson has continued to distinguish himself. His voice is firm and consistent on issues that concern not only Baye...
