Ofurumampepe Youths Condemn False Zoning Claims, Accuse Political Actors of Selfish Plot Against Senator Dickson
By Gabriel Ukuta
The Ofurumampepe Youths of Bayelsa West Senatorial District have condemned in strong terms the recent claims by some political actors alleging a supposed zoning agreement aimed at stopping Senator Henry Seriake Dickson from seeking reelection in 2027.
In a statement by Hon. Preye Okoriye, Director General of the group that was released after their emergency meeting in Sagbama, the group described the zoning narrative as a “selfish political gimmick” orchestrated by a few desperate individuals who are bent on truncating the quality representation that the people of Bayelsa West currently enjoy under Senator Dickson.
According to the group, those pushing the zoning propaganda are not motivated by fairness or equity but by personal ambition and greed. The statement noted that these politicians have chosen to “align with external opposition forces” in a bid to retire Senator Dickson from active politics.
“We have observed with disappointment the activities of some self-centered politicians who, out of fear of Senator Dickson’s rising popularity and unmatched performance, are spreading falsehood about a non-existent zoning agreement,” the statement read.
“Their plan is clear to mislead the people and create confusion in Bayelsa West so they can pursue their selfish political interests. But the people are wiser now and will not be deceived.
The Ofurumampepe Youths reaffirmed their unflinching support for Senator Seriake Dickson, describing him as “a symbol of stability, competence, and effective leadership.” They noted that under his representation, Bayelsa West has witnessed meaningful projects, educational scholarships, empowerment programs, and improved healthcare delivery.
“Senator Dickson has consistently demonstrated love for his people both as a two-term governor and now as a senator. His legislative impact and developmental initiatives have brought pride to Bayelsa West. No amount of propaganda can erase these achievements,” the group emphasized.
They further warned those allegedly collaborating with political elements outside Bayelsa State to destabilize the district, urging them to desist from actions capable of breeding disunity among the Ijaw people.
“Bayelsa West must remain focused on the bigger picture — producing a governor in 2027. Any move to pull down Senator Dickson at this crucial time is a direct attack on the collective progress of our people,” the group added.
The statement concluded by calling on all youths, women, and stakeholders in Sagbama and Ekeremor Local Government Areas to remain steadfast and ignore divisive propaganda, assuring that the Ofurumampepe Youths will continue to defend the truth and the collective interest of Bayelsa West.
“The people know who has worked for them, stood by them, and continues to represent them with integrity. Senator Dickson remains our choice, our voice, and our pride,” the statement concluded.
