SENATOR DICKSON FLAGS OFF MEDICAL SUPPORT AND EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME FOR PREGNANT WOMEN AND NURSING MOTHERS IN BAYELSA WEST

By Gabriel Ukuta

In a move aimed at reducing maternal mortality and improving healthcare delivery in Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson has launched a free medical support and empowerment programme for pregnant women and nursing mothers across Sagbama and Ekeremor Local Government Areas.

The initiative, which forms part of the Senator’s broader empowerment agenda, provides free medical treatment, antenatal care, delivery support, and postnatal services for women. The goal is to discourage home births and ensure that expectant mothers receive proper medical attention during pregnancy and childbirth.

Speaking during the flag-off of the programme, Senator Dickson ably represented by Hon. Fyneman Wilson, and Chief Suru Oyarede both from Sagbama and Ekeremor noted that the initiative was borne out of his commitment to safeguard the lives of women and children, particularly in rural communities where access to healthcare remains a challenge. He emphasized that no woman should lose her life while bringing life into the world, stressing the need for safe and supervised delivery in hospitals.

“This programme is designed to discourage home delivery, which has led to preventable deaths during complications. Every pregnant woman deserves access to safe medical care, and we are making sure they get it free of charge,” Senator Dickson stated.

The medical support programme also includes nutritional supplements, baby care materials, and small-scale empowerment packages to help nursing mothers sustain their livelihoods while caring for their children.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Newsmen lauded the strides of Senator Dickson, stating clearly that it is a testament of his quality representation of the people. The also affirmed that Senator Dickson is the only Legislator who reaches out to the women, Youths and elders of Bayelsa West from time to time with his empowermet programs.

Community leaders and beneficiaries across Bayelsa West have applauded the Senator for his continuous efforts to improve the welfare of women and families, describing the programme as a timely intervention that will save lives and strengthen maternal health services in the region.

The initiative adds to Senator Dickson’s long list of people-oriented programmes, including scholarships, youth and women empowerment schemes, and medical equipment donations to health facilities across Bayelsa West.

Reasons why Political Actors Detract from Senator Dickson

By Gabriel Ukuta In a political terrain that is often characterized by lofty promises, unfulfilled pledges, and leaders who drift away from their people once elected into office. Senator Henry Seriake Dickson in the midst of this familiar pattern, has carved out a reputation that sets him apart: he is a promise-keeper, a leader who matches words with action, and a representative deeply rooted in the lives of his people. This unique approach to politics is precisely why certain political actors in Bayelsa West often attempt to detract from his leadership. His style of governance and representation is not built on empty slogans but on visible results, loyalty to his people, and consistency in fulfilling his commitments. Such authenticity in leadership naturally unsettles those whose politics thrives on deception and opportunism. At the National Assembly, Senator Dickson has continued to distinguish himself. His voice is firm and consistent on issues that concern not only Baye...
