By Gabriel Ukuta

In the evolving political landscape of Delta State and the Niger Delta region, one name that continues to resonate with consistency, integrity, and transformational leadership is Chief (Dr.) Chris Ekiyor. From his youthful days as a vibrant student leader to his current standing as a respected statesman and accomplished entrepreneur, Chief Ekiyor’s journey is a compelling story of service, courage, and excellence.

Chief Ekiyor’s leadership traits became evident early in life. At the University of Benin, where he studied medicine, he earned the confidence of his colleagues and was elected President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) a position that honed his skills in administration, advocacy, and people management. His tenure was marked by inclusiveness, intellectual engagement, and a deep sense of justice. These early experiences laid the foundation for the leadership philosophy that continues to define him today: service anchored on integrity, compassion, and development.

After his university days, Chief Ekiyor’s passion for the advancement of the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta led him to the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) the foremost umbrella body of Ijaw youths across Nigeria. Rising through the ranks, he became President of the IYC, where his leadership inspired unity, dialogue, and constructive engagement with government and oil companies. During his tenure, the IYC experienced a period of intellectual activism and strategic diplomacy, earning him respect not only among Ijaw youths but also across the wider Niger Delta.

His effectiveness and people-oriented leadership did not go unnoticed. Recognizing his commitment to development and peace-building, the Delta State Government appointed him Caretaker Chairman of Patani Local Government Area, where he recorded remarkable achievements in grassroots governance, community mobilization, and infrastructural improvement.

Building on that success, Chief Ekiyor was later appointed Commissioner for Finance in Delta State, a position that placed him at the heart of fiscal management and policy direction in the state. His tenure was characterized by transparency, innovation, and prudent financial administration. He worked diligently to ensure fiscal discipline, strengthen accountability systems, and promote economic inclusiveness within the state’s development framework.

Beyond politics, Chief Ekiyor has proven his versatility and excellence in the private sector. As the Managing Director of Rahil Medical Hospital, a leading healthcare institution, he has built a thriving enterprise that reflects his commitment to human well-being and social responsibility. Through Rahil Medical, he has provided employment opportunities, quality healthcare services, and medical outreach programs that continue to impact lives across communities.

Chief Chris Ekiyor’s story is not just one of titles held or offices occupied, it is a story of purposeful leadership rooted in vision and a genuine desire to serve. His background as a medical doctor reinforces his empathy and people-centered approach to governance; his business success demonstrates his managerial acumen and creativity; his public service record underscores his accountability and commitment to development.

At a time when Nigerians are yearning for credible, experienced, and people-oriented leaders, Chief Ekiyor stands as a symbol of what responsible leadership should represent tested, trusted, and transformative. His blend of youthfulness, intellect, and maturity makes him a bridge between generations, capable of driving progress through knowledge, experience, and inclusivity.

For Delta State and the Niger Delta, Chief Chris Ekiyor remains a shining example of a new kind of leadership one that builds, unites, and delivers results.

Reasons why Political Actors Detract from Senator Dickson

By Gabriel Ukuta In a political terrain that is often characterized by lofty promises, unfulfilled pledges, and leaders who drift away from their people once elected into office. Senator Henry Seriake Dickson in the midst of this familiar pattern, has carved out a reputation that sets him apart: he is a promise-keeper, a leader who matches words with action, and a representative deeply rooted in the lives of his people. This unique approach to politics is precisely why certain political actors in Bayelsa West often attempt to detract from his leadership. His style of governance and representation is not built on empty slogans but on visible results, loyalty to his people, and consistency in fulfilling his commitments. Such authenticity in leadership naturally unsettles those whose politics thrives on deception and opportunism. At the National Assembly, Senator Dickson has continued to distinguish himself. His voice is firm and consistent on issues that concern not only Baye...
