Community leaders across Bayelsa West have braved a heavy downpour to declare strong support for Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District.
In Ekeremor Local Government Area, Community Development Committee (CDC) chairmen, who had earlier passed a vote of confidence in Senator Dickson, came together in Isampou community to formally inaugurate the Ofurumapepe Community Leaders Forum, an NGO dedicated to mobilizing grassroots support for the lawmaker.
The event, described by participants as a turning point in the political history of the area, witnessed chairmen from various communities unanimously endorsing Senator Dickson. They hailed him as a nationalist committed to advancing the interest of the Ijaw Nation and the Niger Delta at large.
Similarly, CDC chairmen from Sagbama Local Government Area convened in Toru-Orua, where they also passed a vote of confidence in Senator Dickson. During the meeting, the leaders dismissed claims of a zoning arrangement for National Assembly seats in the senatorial district.
They urged Senator Dickson to recontest in the forthcoming election, stressing that his presence in the Red Chamber has brought visible dividends of democracy to the people. The leaders further described him as “the voice of the Ijaw Nation and the Niger Delta”, noting his consistent advocacy on issues affecting the region.
With the twin endorsements from both Sagbama and Ekeremor leaders, Senator Dickson appears to be consolidating grassroots support as calls intensify for him to extend his tenure in the Senate.
