BAYELSA COMMERCIAL BUS DRIVERS APPEAL FOR EXTENSION ON STATE COLOUR COMPLIANCE DEADLINE.

By Toyyib Omowale

Commercial mini-bus owners and drivers in Bayelsa State have appealed to the state government, through the Ministry of Transport, for an extension of the deadline for painting all commercial mini-buses in the official state colour and obtaining identity numbers of which the current deadline is set for Thursday, July 31, 2025.

The drivers made this appeal during a peaceful demonstration in Yenagoa the state capital.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Iziboyi, a mini-bus driver, appreciated Governor Douye Diri and the state Ministry of Transport for their initiative to regulate the transport sector, which he said would help create a database of all commercial mini-buses operating in the state.

However, he appealed for the deadline to be extended until December 2025, noting that the current economic situation has made it difficult for many commercial drivers to repaint their buses before the stipulated date.

Similarly, another driver explained that the persistent rainfall has posed a major challenge, as it prevents them from taking their vehicles to designated locations for painting.

On his part, Mr. Isaac Udein, a mini-bus operator, commended the government for separating motor parks into inter-state and intra-state categories, which, according to him, has made it easier for passengers to board vehicles with minimal stress.

Mr. Udein, however, noted that the deadline for repainting is too close. He stated that the rush by vehicle owners to meet the deadline has overwhelmed painters, making it hard for everyone to comply on time.

Reasons why Political Actors Detract from Senator Dickson

By Gabriel Ukuta In a political terrain that is often characterized by lofty promises, unfulfilled pledges, and leaders who drift away from their people once elected into office. Senator Henry Seriake Dickson in the midst of this familiar pattern, has carved out a reputation that sets him apart: he is a promise-keeper, a leader who matches words with action, and a representative deeply rooted in the lives of his people. This unique approach to politics is precisely why certain political actors in Bayelsa West often attempt to detract from his leadership. His style of governance and representation is not built on empty slogans but on visible results, loyalty to his people, and consistency in fulfilling his commitments. Such authenticity in leadership naturally unsettles those whose politics thrives on deception and opportunism. At the National Assembly, Senator Dickson has continued to distinguish himself. His voice is firm and consistent on issues that concern not only Baye...
