Bayelsa Chief Judge Expresses Gratitude Over Safe Rescue of Abducted Justice Omukoro

 



Hon. Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye,Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, has expressed gratitude on the safe rescue of Hon. Justice E.G. Omukoro of the Bayelsa State High Court, who was abducted on Saturday,21 June, and had been held captive under distressing circumstances.


In a statement issued by Mr. Julius Nyananyo, Head of Media and Information of the Bayelsa State Judiciary, the successful outcome is attributed to the efforts of the Government of Bayelsa State, security agencies, the Bar, organisations, community leaders, and the Judiciary family.


The Chief Judge extends her gratitude to everyone involved in securing Hon. Justice Omukoro’s safe return with special commendation to Hon. Justice Kuditat Kekere-Ekun, Chief Justice of Nigeria and members of the National Judicial Council, Governor Douye Diri, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, State Deputy Governor, and Right Honourable Ingobere Abraham, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, for their pivotal role., the security agencies, particularly the DSS, the Nigeria Police, Bayelsa State Command, among others, for their strategic operations, synergy, and dedication.


She conveys sincere appreciation to the Nigerian Bar Association, with particular recognition of the dedicated leadership of Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, National President of the NBA, also acknowledges the support of the Yenagoa and Sagbama branches of the NBA, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, various organizations, and respected community leaders for their meaningful contributions.


Deep gratitude is further extended to the family and loved ones of Justice Omukoro, whose strength, patience, and cooperation remain deeply valued noting that the operation underscores the power of collaboration, patience, and professionalism in resolving such delicate situations and further said that as they celebrate this positive outcome, they remain committed to addressing the root causes of such incidents and further ensuring the safety of all Judicial officers in the State.


 According to the statement, they are happy to state that Justice Omukoro is now receiving medical and psychological support and requests privacy during this period of recovery.
